We will once again be holding our annual School Choice meeting this year on Tuesday, January 29, 6:30-8:00 PM at Artisan Church.  If you are a parent or guardian with a child preparing to enter school within the next few years, this meeting is a great way to gather information, meet other parents, and find out what your options are as a city resident.

Many families have concerns when it comes to their children’s education.  Luckily, there are many options available to residents of the Highland Park Neighborhood, including public, charter, and private schools.  The HPNA will have families on hand representing these various choices.  During a brief intro they will share their experiences, and will then be available to meet with later in the meeting.

We encourage everyone – parents, future parents, residents, and educators – to attend.

RCSD School Board Candidate Forum is September 8 @ School 12

2011 September 3
by Michael

RCSD School Board Candidate Forum – September 8, 7:00PM, School No. 12

The School 12 PTA will be hosting a Rochester City School District School Board candidate forum :

Thursday, September 8th at 7pm.

School No. 12 is located at 999 South Avenue, across from Highland Hospital. Parking is available in the school parking lot.

On primary day, September 13th and, election day, November 8th, 2011, four positions of the seven member School Board are being contested. Please consider attending the School Board forum to learn about the candidates and the issues facing the teaching of more than 30,000 students who attend Rochester City Schools every school day.

Whether a city resident, RCSD parent, Catholic or charter school parent, the health of the Rochester City School District directly impacts your neighborhood, your City and the greater community. For fiscal year 2011-2012, the RCSD is administering a budget of more than $681 million. Each year, City Council approves approximately $119 million as part of the City of Rochester’s adherence to the NYS mandated Maintenance of Effort agreement (MOE). But, the administration of the Rochester City School District is more than just money. Your attendance will speak to the need for the support of public education and for educational choice in our community, whether public or private. Come and meet prospective Board candidates and step inside your RCSD neighborhood school! Questions?

  • Little Library Team: Topics: Completion of First Wave, Next Wave
  • Highland Hospital Committee: Topics: Hospital Expansion, Other Engagement

Some of the group break-outs will be delayed for a second wave around 7:30-7:45 so that folks can talk to as many HPNA contributors as possible.

The actual meeting starts at 7 pm, but there will time for socializing and orientation starting at 6:30.

A new year is upon us and that means a lot of great new activities in the Highland Park Neighborhood. For those that don’t know, 2013 brings along with it a new Board to represent the neighborhood. These volunteers were elected during our 2012 Annual Meeting in December and have already started planning for the year.

Looking back, 2012 was an amazing year for the HPNA, with tons of great events and efforts to improve our community. In 2013 we plan to carry those achievements forward and work on new projects – which means there will be plenty of ways for neighbors to get involved and contribute.

Here’s a brief overview of just some of what we have in store for this year: read more…

Join the Three Hour Team!

2010 February 21
by Michael

If you saw our year end wrap-up at our annual meeting, you’ll understand that we have events, meetings and many other projects going on in our neighborhood all year long, every month of the year. Movies, Gardening, Traffic Calming, Planning, Cleanup Crews, Arts, Exhibit Volunteers, Taste of the Neighborhood, Halloween Parade, Tours, School Choice…etc… (New this year ! Garage Sale!) and the list continues.

Many of you would like to participate but just don’t feel as if you can commit to being on one of our teams or committees or our board. Of course, joining as a supporting member is a BIG HELP. Contributions from our neighbors help us with each and every one of our programs.

But we have come up with another way you can help… we call it:

The Three Hour Team

It is very simple to become a member of the Three Hour Team

  1. Email us with your contact information (at jointheteam@highlandparkrochester.org), include your phone number and name and tell us you want to join the team. If you have a list of thing you would prefer doing and those that you wouldn’t, include this list.
  2. Next time we have a task, such as helping plant or cleanup a park or garden or deliver our Buzz or something guaranteed to take 3 hours or less, we will contact you and see if you are available.
  3. The first time you say YES! and join us, that will be it….we won’t call again UNLESS YOU JOIN THE TEAM AGAIN. Or a New Year begins.

And of course, we are hoping you will join us again and again all year long. But if one three hour session per year is all you can afford….we will still be grateful and acknowledge your volunteer contributions at the next annual meeting (which by the way, we are already planning and it is going to be special from what I’ve heard)

So there you go….interested? Let us know using jointheteam@highlandparkrochester.org),
